This beautiful Hare kept watch above the natural trenches which they call home on the moorland.

Mountains Hares (Lepus timidus) may seem unlikely to be found in England, however there is a small population of them living the Peak District. Although naturally present in Scotland and Ireland, they were previously virtually wiped out in England but were reintroduced in the late 1800s. Populations were introduced into Northumberland, North Wales and the Lake District, but these failed. Fortunately, those reintroduced into the Peak District thrived into a sustainable population, however they are still under threat from human pressures and climate change.

All prints are made with museum grade papers and inks.
